How We Work

Initial consultation

On request, a suitable time is arranged to meet at the architectural site in question, be it either an existing residence you wish to refurbish or at the potential site of a new home. A brief document will be filled out by a consultant. This will allow us to ascertain the scope of the project and what type services are required.

Quote

Once the brief is established, a quote will be compiled, based on the following:

  • Location of property
  • Type and size of development
  • Additional services needed such as sub-division, second home application, engineering reports, etc.
  • Guidelines set by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession
  • Submission Fees – as per the Johannesburg Metropolitan Council.

The quote will include the following: scheduling the process of design and approval of your intended development. It will list the estimated draughting, administrative costs and council submission fees involved as well as payment terms. Included will also be our terms and conditions. This will be sent to you via email with in 2 days of the initial consultation.

If you are happy with the Quote, a signed copy is sent to Gravity Plans and the process begins.

The Design process begins

  • Geographic information and existing documentation are requested and collected from the Town council by Gravity Plans.
  • An appointment is made to go on site to measure, document and photograph all areas and levels of the existing buildings.
  • Discussions will also be held as to proposed design concept. This concept will then be finalized and agreed to.

  • A sketch design is compiled using the relevant CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) programs, including 3D imaging.
  • Presentation of the sketch design.
  • Upon your approval, we proceed with the design development, technical documentation and council approval.

Council Approval

Once plans are approved you will be presented with the following:

  • One master set of complete building plans.
  • One set of approved council plans.
